摘  要：《看不见的人》是美国著名黑人作家拉尔夫•埃里森创作的第一部长篇小说，于一九五二年出版后立即得到读者的积极评价,并获得了美国国家图书奖。一九六五年，《看不见的人》被美国阅读周刊杂志评为近二十年来最杰出的出版作品。一九九八年，现代图书馆再次将其列为20世纪百部最佳英文小说的第十九位。本文试图分析主人公“我”从自我迷失到自我探求，最终获得自我意识这个成长历程来分析小说的主人公形象，以此揭示《看不见的人》这部作品的成功之处。

On the Image of Protagonist in Invisible Man
Abstract: Invisible Man published in 1952 was written by Ralph Ellison, who is a famous black novelist in America. The book aroused positive appraise from the readers and it won the National Book Award. It was acclaimed as “the most distinguished single work published in the last twenty years” by a 1965 Book Week. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked Invisible Man nineteenth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. This paper attempts to analyse the image of the protagonist’s growth experirence from self-loss through self-quest to get self-awareness and to disclose the success of this work.

Introduction
Invisible Man was a famous novel written by Ralph Ellison, which is a classic from the moment it first appeared in 1952. The book won the National Book Award, a high and rare honor for a first novel. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked Invisible Man nineteenth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. Time magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005. Alain Loekee considers the novel to be one of the best integrated accounts of interaction between whites and Negroesim American society that has yet been presented till today, this novel still listed as a modern classic by the literature world.
